Chrissy & Eike: A Tropical Islamorada Florida Wedding

January 25, 2013 - Weddings
All I can say is I wish I was a guest at this dang wedding!
Seriously, Chrissy, Eike and their friends were such incredible fun to spend the day with and it shows in their images! Even 7 months pregnant in August I had a great time... that is saying something people.

Although this blog post is a bit belated the joy, loveliness and spirit of these two continue to shine through.

Without further ado... enjoy!

Melissa & Jeremy: a Retro Rat Pack Inspired Wedding

January 17, 2013 - Weddings

Falling in Love... In their own words.

Melissa

"Jeremy and I met while working at the Great Movie Ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios. He was one of my trainers and while day one together did not go so smoothly ( I was sick as can be and NOT doing well on my assessment) his love and compassion for both his job and his trainees saw me through to success.

That, by the way, was the SECOND thing I fell in love with....first was his beautiful mysterious honey brown eyes! We became friends shortly after, his opinion mattered more to me than anyone else's on pretty much everything.

Eventually one of my friends got completely annoyed at me for constantly pining away and not doing anything about it so she took it into her own hands and invited him to join us at EPCOT to hang out for the day. I will always owe finding my own piece of paradise to that wonderful, geeky, cheesy disney park because while most people go to Paris to find true love, I found mine half a park away in Mousegears (the main hub of tourist crazy, aka the main chochkee shop at the park) when we first touched hands. A week later, we were cuddled up watching To Have and Have Not (I checked...he does know how to whistle) when we came to the conclusion that going steady was the only way to go. We felt like we somehow skipped the first six months of awkward dating and sailed right into the wonderful stage where you know you are looking into the eyes of your soulmate. Within weeks we were talking rings, I wanted a very specific out-of-the-ordinary ring (black pearl, white gold, no diamonds...well maybe little baby ones). Oh and we spent pretty much every waking moment together. The longest we ever spent away from each other was like a week when he went to Vegas with his grandma. But thats where the story starts getting amazing!"

Jeremy

"Okay, so here's the deal. From time to time while we were dating we would look at rings. She would tell me I like this, but I don't like that. If this had this I would like it better, but I could settle for this because it's to difficult to find the exact ring. I've never been one for settling so the entire time I'm taking mental notes of what she truly wants. So I'm out in Vegas and I come across (The Ring) at the Venetian. I don't get it right away. The next day I'm in Bally's and I come across the same shop. The girls there were trying to get me to buy a ring assuring me they have the exact same items they had over in the Venetian. Oh but they didn't. While they had many of the same items they were lacing The Ring. The next day I head back over to the Venetian to see if they still had the ring. They did. I walk away and think about it. Venice is her favorite city in the world and the Venetian stands on the Hallowed grounds that was once home to the Sands where the Rat Pack use to headline. I had never seen The Ring anywhere else and I figured how many more signs do I need? None! Get the ring already! So within 5 minutes I return with the Cash and Bada-bing, Beey-Boop!

I've got the ring. So I had planned on asking her parents permission first but I could not wait. That night back at my condo while Melissa is in the bathroom I cue up an American in Paris to the scene at the bridge where Gene Kelly sings our love is here to stay (our song). She comes out and I hit play. We starts to dance cause we are corny like that. I tell here I have presents. First I put a pink Sergeant Peppers scarf around here neck that I picked up at the Beatles Love show. Continuing to dance I spin her around and with her back turned to me I tell her I have one more gift. I pull the ring out of my pocket open the case and hold it in front of her. She starts to shake and turns around to find me on one knee.

The rest is history. :)"

In honor of their vintage theme and charming style I'm doing a blog post in (almost) all black and white!

Please to enjoy

Krystal

Jeremy's Favorite Photo:
"It's a tough one but I'd have to say it's the one with her in the Gator jersey and garter. I know how tough that must have been for her and I'm sure she caught all kinds of grief from her family (for wearing Gator gear). I am truly the luckiest man on earth to have such a loving wife."
The Most Memorable Moment of the Day (Her):
"Getting to see Jeremy for the first time... our dearest friends all walked me over to meet him and it was such a special moment."
Melissa's Favorite Photo:
"It's hard to pick just one! But if I had to it would be the photo where we were sitting on the steps and kissing each other's hands. So adorable, romantic and intimate!"
Singing his vows to Melissa!
The Most Memorable Moment of the Day (Him):
"The moments that we had alone together like the first meeting, riding in the Rolls Royce and when she sang her vows to me... It was like there was no one else there but her and I."
Jeremy and Melissa's Advice for Couples Planning their own Wedding:
"Get help! Seriously either get a planner or have an amazing team in place to help you get everything in place because its a lot of little details.

Also, enjoy your day! Things will NOT going according to plan....but if you let the little things slide and relax and enjoy every second you will realize that the day that comes together for you is better than anything you could have planned yourself.

OH! And one more thing....the best part of our wedding was that Jeremy and I both had a hand equally in the day....we planned everything together, which made the process fun and also the day something that expressed both of us, making it that much better."

Ryan & Meghan: a vintage surf hotel wedding at The Post Card Inn 2

January 15, 2013 - Weddings
Meghan & Ryan and free-spirted cool people who really just wanted to have a great time with everyone they love in one place!

They also picked out a really cool swanky vintage surf hotel called The Post Card Inn of St. Petersburg Beach.  It suited them perfectly, from the boho beach accents to mod inspired furniture and memorabilia.  And at night they illuminate their center courtyard with hundreds of Tuscan garden lights, a fire pit and lanterns in the trees. It's the kind of reception we photographers dream of being guests at. Gorgeous lights, a cloudless starry Florida night and gulf breezes casting over the fire pit and dance floor.

I think I can agree... their wedding was exactly the great party they planned! It comes through in each image how fun, delightfully odd and genuine they and their friends and family are.  And it  was simply my pleasure to be a part of it. Just sayin:  it takes a photo nerd to know some photo nerds. ;)

Thanks for letting me nerd it up with you!

Much Love,
K
What is your favorite photo from the day: Meghan
" Just one?! I have a few absolute favorite photos: The shot from the second floor of the ceremony is a really special one for me. I wanted that photo specifically to capture the whole look, and it came out perfectly.
I also LOVE the photo of Ryan and I in black and white, where he is looking straight on and I am giving him a kiss on the cheek. It's so intimate and close and romantic. And for the third favorite (in a list of probably 30), is a shot of Ryan and I as we are exiting the ceremony. We look so thrilled and it's a moment I never want to forget, and now I won't! "
The Most Memorable Moment of the Day: in Meghan's Words
"For me the most memorable moment was after the portraits on the beach, we walked back toward the reception area. I guess we were supposed to walk behind the hotel, as to not be seen by everyone until the announcements, but that was the first moment that I was actually aware of all of our friends and family being there.
It was a great feeling to see everyone, and know that the part I was the most nervous about (which was walking down the aisle, and in my mind certainly tripping or throwing up). I also felt this joy as we were shooting portraits before the wedding in the lobby in the lobby. I was so excited to see our friends and family there, and be reminded that these people love us and are here to celebrate in this joy, and it took my nerves completely away."
Tips for Great Photos from Ryan & Meghan:
"Don't over think it! Be natural and aware of what's going on around you in that moment. I think it's also helpful to practice. The engagement photos are a great way to do this. I also did some research online on the best poses, how to stand, how to get the best shots and I think that really helped. Feeling comfortable with the photographer is really important too. Krystal made this cake for us. :)"
The Most Memorable Moment of the Day: in Ryan's Words
The first dance. The song was really special to us, and hearing those words while dancing with my wife was a really wonderful moment. It was the first moment that was like "we're married, and we're at the party, and this is going to be awesome."
Advice from Ryan and Meghan for couples planning their wedding:
"The number one thing is to enjoy the actual day. Take in those moments. It goes by so quickly. Before the wedding, don't over stress. There are moments when it all feels kind of overwhelming, well, it did for me anyway. Keep in mind that the most important thing about the day is that you are committing to spending the rest of your life with this person, and celebrating that with all of your family and friends. All of the other stuff just won't seem as important when that moment is finally here, and you will wonder why you spent any time stressing about it at all. "
Thank you to all the other wonderful folks who helped create their day!

" It's hard to narrow down one favorite. The one of me on the balcony comes to mind. It was hours before the ceremony was going to happen. I look so relaxed and happy and calm. I like to look at that photo and remember the excitement and joy that I was feeling in that moment. "
